LMA Regulatory Insights – Jan 2026

The LMA Public Policy and Regulation Team would like to wish you a happy, successful and healthy 2026.

The year ahead is set to be another active one for loan markets regulation and policy, and we will continue to support our members by monitoring key developments, facilitating informed discussion, and representing the loan markets’ technical expertise in policy debates across the UK and EU.

The LMA’s focus includes further engagement on securitisation, the ongoing SFDR review, and continued dialogue with policymakers and regulators. We will build on this work through expert roundtables (including on NBFIs and securitisation), think-tank discussions, and a full programme of events – including our Brussels seminar on 30 April.

We look forward to working closely with members as the legislative agenda continues to evolve.  For any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Jesse Beardsworth or Evelien Alblas.

New Launch – Member Briefings on Public Policy & Regulatory Updates: Register here for the LMA’s new bi-monthly member briefing call on key public policy and regulatory developments affecting the loan markets.

The first call is on 29 January 2026 and will cover the ongoing negotiation of the EU securitisation proposals, the latest news on the implementation of Article 21c of CRD VI, the recent publication by ESMA of the responses to its Q&A on ELTIFs and the ongoing HM Treasury consultation on benchmarks.

LMA Regulatory Scanner

The January edition of the LMA Regulatory Scanner is now available to members. This edition highlights key updates and upcoming changes impacting the loan markets – including private credit and NBFIs, securitisation, sustainable finance, Article 21c, and more.

Advocacy and Submissions

  • The House of Lords Financial Services Regulation Committee (FSRC)’s report on Private Markets reflects key suggestions from the LMA’s response to the FSRC inquiry.
  • The LMA’s SFDR Think Tank is finalising a response to the European Commission’s proposal to amend SFDR.
  • The LMA has been actively engaging in advocacy to reinforce the LMA’s Securitisation Think Tank’s position paper on the EU Securitisation Proposals.

Meetings and Roundtables

  • On 13 January, we hosted a roundtable in Brussels on NBFIs with the European Commission, ECB and member experts – stay tuned for our blog post on key takeaways.
  • On 27 January, we will host a roundtable on Article 21c of CRD VI’s impact on the secondary loan markets.
  • On 4 February, we will host an in-person roundtable on securitisation with the FCA.

Article 21c Transposition

Most Member States missed the 10 January 2026 deadline for transposing CRD VI into local law, effectively further compressing the short implementation timeline (before the 11 July 2026 cut off date for grandfathering and the 11 January 2027 compliance date). See LMA’s Article 21c Tracker for CRD VI for the latest on transposition.
