Note to Members
As summer draws to a close, Brussels is getting back into full swing, and the autumn agenda is already looking busy. With the Irish Presidency setting the pace ahead of the year-end, the Eurofi Financial Forum in Dublin provides an important moment for policymakers and industry to take stock of Europe’s financial services priorities. The LMA attended the Forum this year with an official delegation for the first time, contributing to discussions on the key issues affecting loan markets participants.
At the heart of the debate is competitiveness. Policymakers in both the EU and UK are increasingly focused on how the regulatory framework can support economic growth, investment, and financing the real economy while maintaining financial stability. This shift is reflected in the Commission’s emerging agenda, with discussions around simplification, prudential requirements, Banking Union, and the competitiveness of the EU banking sector gathering momentum.
Policymakers are also increasingly focused on private markets and non-bank finance, including through the Bank of England’s ongoing system-wide exploratory scenario exercise examining resilience and potential stress transmission across the private markets ecosystem.
For the securitisation market, the Review of the Securitisation Framework is entering its final phase, with trilogue negotiations expected to move towards agreement in the coming weeks. The Irish Presidency is aiming to conclude negotiations by October, making this a particularly important period for the markets. Alongside developments in the EU, the UK continues to advance its financial services reform agenda, with ongoing work aimed at supporting growth, competitiveness and the efficient functioning of capital markets.
Against this backdrop, the final quarter of 2026 promises to be an active period for financial services policy on both sides of the Channel.
