Behind the Scenes: The Making of LMA Events, Our Successes, and the Vision for 2025

For the LMA, events are more than just dates in the diary – they are the pulse of collaboration, connection, and innovation in the loan markets.

Reflecting on 2024, we’re proud to celebrate a remarkable year for our events. With over 50 events and an impressive 6,000 attendees, our Events Team has gone above and beyond to deliver high-quality gatherings that resonate with our members and the wider loan market community. Our events were brought to life by an inspiring lineup of speakers, including Iona Bain, Jason Robinson, Nic Hamilton, and Bradley Hope, whose insights and expertise sparked valuable conversations and enriched our audiences.

Our flagship Annual Loan Markets Conference was a standout, bringing together over 800 attendees for a seamless experience filled with top-tier content and networking. In 2025, we’re raising the bar even higher with an upgraded venue designed to elevate your experience to new heights!

Have you ever attended a loans conference in a historic museum? Our inaugural European Loan Markets Conference, held in a historic venue in Paris, highlighted the importance of rethinking strategies to navigate the evolving loan market. With exceptional feedback from our members, the event is here to stay and will rotate across Europe – stay tuned to find out where we go next!

Africa remains a top priority for the LMA, and this year’s events in Nairobi, Johannesburg, and Lagos, have solidified our footprint across the continent. In 2025, we’re set to amplify this momentum with even more impactful events, reinforcing the LMA’s role as a driving force in Africa’s dynamic and expanding loan market.

Our first Credit Risk Insurance (CRI) and Synthetic Risk Transfers (SRT) event explored their role as Credit Portfolio Management tools. With private markets in focus, the LMA continues to welcome industry contributions to this important area, and we will ensure you’ll see more events in this space next year.  

The launch of FutureLend was met with resounding enthusiasm, as it delivered essential tools and strategies to empower the next generation of lenders. Building on this success, the initiative will expand in the years to come, continuing to inspire and equip young professionals in London and across Europe to thrive in the evolving loan market.

Lastly, our inaugural Institutional Investor Evening successfully united buy-side and sell-side members to discuss collaboration opportunities. We will continue to strengthen these connections and foster meaningful dialogue between the two sides of the market.

With an average turnout rate of 73%, the engagement and enthusiasm from our members have been outstanding, underscoring the quality of our events in terms of knowledge sharing and networking.

2025 Strategy: Targeted, Tailored, Transformative

Looking to 2025, our strategy builds on the strong foundations laid in 2024, emphasizing quality, innovation, and member-centric initiatives.

Here is a sneak preview of what to expect from the LMA’s events calendar in the coming year:

Quality Over Quantity We’re streamlining our event calendar, focusing on fewer, high-impact gatherings. By targeting specific geographies and product verticals, we’ll create opportunities for meaningful discussions and stronger connections. Smaller roundtables and curated attendee lists will foster deeper engagement within our members and the wider community.

Growing the Middle East Region We’re striving to expand our presence in the Middle East, to further strengthen our role as a key player in the region’s loan markets. Our focus will be on fostering deeper connections through tailored events, partnerships and initiatives that address the unique needs of the Middle Eastern market and our members in the region.

Content That Inspires & Experiences that Last and Transform Our events will feature prominent thought leaders and tackle future-focused topics, from sustainable finance to tech-driven innovation, ensuring attendees leave inspired and informed.

Echoing your Voice through Member Feedback   Post-event surveys and feedback mechanisms remain integral to our planning. Members input led to the successful launch of the European Loan Markets Conference in 2024, underscoring the importance of your voice in shaping our offerings.

Digital Innovation with Event Apps Technology will continue to enhance the attendee experience, offering real-time updates, networking tools, and interactive features like live Q&A and polling to boost participation.

Operational Excellence In 2025, we’re prioritising event reporting by focusing on attendance data, gathering feedback, and refining strategies to better meet member needs. With a strong focus on budgets and governance, we’ll ensure all events align with LMA objectives and deliver maximum value and impact.

Training & Courses The LMA is committed to a consistent, high-quality training framework across all formats. In 2025, the focus will be on refining what we deliver, how we deliver it, and who is involved. While in-person training will be limited, it will feature impactful sessions led by senior LMA leaders at flagship events.

Online training will take centre stage with the launch of the LMA Academy, offering flexibility and accessibility. Our goal is to ensure sustainability and maximise resources while continuing to provide high-quality, accessible training for our community.

Looking Ahead

At the heart of our 2025 strategy is a commitment to aligning events with the LMA’s mission: enabling greater efficiency, liquidity, transparency, and sustainability in the loan markets. Guided by member feedback and our board-led Events Committee, we ensure our initiatives reflect the needs and priorities of our community. We will reinforce that the LMA is the authoritative voice of the loan markets across all our events.

As we move into 2025, our focus remains on innovation, member engagement, and operational excellence. We’re embracing new venues, updated sponsorship models, and enhanced digital tools to elevate the attendee experience and ensure our events continue to inspire and inform.

Currently, she serves as Head of Events at the Loan Market Association (LMA), where she oversees the planning and execution of events and sponsorship opportunities. The LMA Events team delivers high-profile conferences, seminars, and training programmes tailored to the needs of the loan market. Meike's career has included leadership roles such as Director of Corporate Events at Fitch Group, where she managed a diverse portfolio of events and sponsorships across EMEA. She has worked on a wide range of projects, from intimate gatherings to large-scale conferences with audiences of up to 2,000 and budgets exceeding $3 million. Known for her attention to detail and ability to juggle multiple priorities, she is skilled at aligning events with organisational goals and enhancing engagement through innovative use of event and marketing technologies.
